Giving back to the community where it all began

As part of the Kings for the Community program, Martin bought tickets to Kings games throughout his first five seasons for hundreds of local children and families from underserved communities. For the 2009-2010 season, Kevin purchased a block of 20 premium season tickets that he used to personally identify and distribute to underprivileged children, and organizations that serve these children, in the Sacramento and surrounding areas. "I just wanted to provide these kids with the experience of an NBA game. For most of these kids, it will be the only NBA game that they will ever attend." Read more here →

During the holidays, Martin made sure to visit to the Sacramento Children's Home to hand out gifts to children. For his last Christmas in Sacramento, Martin hosted a Christmas dinner for all of the kids living at SCH, providing gifts for all of the homes, as well as multiple gifts for each child to open... He gave these kids a real Christmas.

Martin was also part of the NBA Read to Achieve campaign, visiting local schools and community centers throughout Sacramento to encourage children to stay in school and develop a love for reading. He donated back-to-school back packs for an entire class of kids, so that they could have something to carry their books in.

Additionally, Martin would regularly stop by local schools and hospitals to talk to and play with the children, donate jerseys to fund raiders, and support local charities and organizations. At his basketball camps and clinics, Kevin made sure that any child who had a desire to participate could, often underwriting the cost.
